Unlocking Potential: Strengthening China-Africa Cooperation for High-Quality Growth

On Monday, 11th February 2024, Nairobi, Kenya hosted a landmark event as the China Media Group Africa (CMG Africa) and the Africa Policy Institute joined forces to host a seminar under the theme 'Enhancing China-Africa Cooperation in New Quality Productive Forces to Realise High-Quality Growth'. This gathering of minds brought together a diverse panel of experts to dissect recent developments in China and their potential implications for Africa and the global landscape in 2024.

Set against the backdrop of imminent events like the Two Sessions in March and the upcoming 9th FOCAC Summit scheduled for later in the year in Beijing, the seminar served as a timely platform for strategic dialogue and collaborative planning.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in in-depth discussions covering a broad spectrum of topics critical to fostering deeper collaboration between China and Africa. One of the central themes that resonated throughout the seminar was the imperative of building an inclusive, green, and low-carbon economy. Experts emphasized the importance of sustainable development practices in driving long-term economic growth and resilience, advocating for initiatives that prioritize environmental conservation and renewable energy.

Furthermore, the seminar explored strategies for fostering new productive forces to catalyze the rapid development of emerging industries, formats, and models. Participants underscored the pivotal role of innovation and technology in driving economic transformation, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to harness the potential of digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

In addition to economic considerations, discussions also centered on enhancing trade and investment between China and Africa. Participants exchanged insights on optimizing trade corridors, streamlining regulatory frameworks, and fostering an environment conducive to investment and entrepreneurship.

A highlight of the seminar was the insightful remarks by Churchill Otieno, President of The Africa Editors Forum and Executive Director of Eastern Africa Editors Society. He emphasized the importance of empowering youth engagement in media outlets, urging for platforms that enable the next generation of leaders to contribute ideas, drive innovation, and shape policies prioritizing sustainability and equity.
