Welcome to Arusha, Tanzania, and to the World Press Freedom Day Africa Media Convention! Please find below general information on meetings arrangements, which you may find useful.
1. Date and venue
The conference is at Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) on 01 to 03 May 2022. An excursion for interested participants is on 04 May 2022.
2. Registration for Participants
The registration desk will be located at the main entrance hall of Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) and will open starting from 01 May 2022 at 08.00 am and during the conference daily from 08.00 am. All delegates and participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible at the conference venue. Each delegate is required to have an identity card provided for the purpose of identification during the period of the conference.
3. Visa and Immigration Requirements
It is important to verify your visa entry requirements to the United Republic of Tanzania. You can do this through a Tanzanian Embassy or Consular Office closest to you or through the official immigration website. Be sure to have a full valid passport with at least six months to expiry on entry. You may also obtain an entry visa at the airport upon arrival. In this case, you should be sure to inform the conference organizers in advance, before arrival, providing full passport details. Check with your travel provider to make sure your passport and other travel documents meet their requirements.
4. Health and Medical Requirements
In addition to visa and passport requirements, an international health certificate showing current yellow fever immunization is required for entry into the United Republic of Tanzania.
Travel Advice for COVID 19
All travelers including Tanzanians are required to truthfully fill in an online Traveler’s Health Surveillance Form for Tanzania mainland and fulfill the requirements detailed in the travel guide on the official website.
Travelers, who are fully vaccinated, are exempted from both RT PCR and Rapid Antigen Test requirements and are required to present a valid vaccination certificate with a QR code for verification upon arrival. The only accepted vaccines are those approved by the United Republic of Tanzania and the World Health Organization.
Non-fully vaccinated, unvaccinated and those not eligible for vaccination are required to present a negative COVID-19 RT- PCR or NAATs certificate with a QR code obtained within 72 hours before departure.
There are no exemptions to Tanzania’s entry requirements.
5. Medical services and health insurance coverage
All delegates are to ensure that they have the required personal health cover for the period of the conference.
6. Airport Arrivals and Protocol Desk
A protocol desk will be available at the Kilimanjaro International Airport to facilitate entry and departure for delegates. Resident hotels can arrange airport shuttles to and from the airport and delegates may contact the protocol desk for transport facilitation.
7. Local transport
Delegates are required to arrange local transport between the hotels and the conference venue. More information will be available at the registration desk located at the main entrance hall of Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC).
8. Hotel Accommodation
Self-funded and sponsored delegates are required to pay for accommodation and make bookings to hotels of your choice. Bookings can be made online or directly with the hotel. Payment can be made in dollars and/or Tanzanian shillings and in cash even though some hotels accept credit cards. A list of preferential hotels with room rates is provided with this information note.
9. Electric Supply
Tanzania operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. For Tanzania, there are two associated plug types, types D and G. Plug type D is the plug, which has three round pins in a triangular pattern and plug type G is the plug that has two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin.
10. Interpretation and translation
Interpretation is available for all main sessions and selected panel sessions in English, Swahili, and French. Details of the full language schedule and relevant channels will be communicated on the conference days.
11. Documents and reports
Working documents are regularly updated at the conference and final versions are provided upon registration at the conference venue.
12. Weather
The weather in Arusha during the month of May is 23 °C to 17 °C.
13. Media Accreditation
Accreditation is required for all media who wish to cover the World Press Freedom Day Africa Media Convention. Media accreditation is strictly reserved for media professionals (print, photo, radio, television, film/documentary, news agencies, and online media) who represent a genuine media organization. All journalists should apply through email: ingiahedi.mduma@mawasiliano.go.tz.
Applications should reach the Directorate before 20 April 2022.
